Beat the Blues

Monday blues…
Winter blues…
Sing me the blues…

Who remembers that obnoxious K-mart blue light special? I might have been a young child, but when that blue light started flashing somewhere in the store you just had to drop what you were doing and get there fast! Anyone? Anyone? Nobody wanted to miss out on the newest deal!

This is definitely the time of year that I find I need to power up my happy light each morning – which ironically includes a dose of BLUE light to lift my mood! But then there are those Monday blues. That feeling that the weekend is over and you have to wait 4-5 more days until the next one! I’ve been thinking on this, and I have decided that I want to approach Monday just like I approach the weekend. Monday is a new and fresh start to an exciting week that has so much to offer!

I know. I know! this idea will take some practice, some planning, and some community support.

Rituals and habit tracking are important ways that I harness and store energy to fuel my days and weeks, but I’ve definitely been riding the rollercoaster of inconsistency lately – and I’m feeling it! I’m craving some simple and joyful consistency to start each week.

So…yesterday (Monday), I decided that a new ritual – one that builds connection – might be a great way to start each week. I’ll be using my social media to make a #beatthemondayblues post each Monday (that’s the consistency part) and it will be a post designed to engage all of us in creating a more positive outlook for the week ahead. Will you join me? Yesterday’s Facebook (@cherylnelsonpriest) and Instagram (@drcherylpriest) post asked for ideas and they came in! People are looking for a fresh start! Here are just a few:

Really loud 90s hip hop on my way to work.
Starbucks, a cute outfit, and Cardi B on my drive to work.
Appreciate and enjoy every moment with my preschool students.
Stop for coffee. Schedule in a small chunk of time for myself to read. Skip the laundry pile that day.
Sleeping in. Good stretch. Kick off the day with some gratitude breathing.
Thank the Lord for another day.
Watching our grands makes us love our Mondays.
Monday playlist (mostly 70s classic rock).
A good morning walk always helps set the mental attitude for the day.

Have a picture? Please share that too! Better yet, post it on Instagram and tag me along with that #beatthemondayblues. Then I can share it out with others and watch the joy grow!

I’m ready to smile!

What is it with my obsession with blue these days? More about that next Monday on social media!
